8 HOUR DAY: TRIBUTE TO SAMUEL D PARNELL

8 HOUR DAY: TRIBUTE TO SAMUEL D PARNELL

When the carpenter Samuel Duncan Parnell arrived in New Zealand in 1840 he was determined to work no more than an 8 hour day. As a result of his successful campaign on behalf of working people his name continues to be associated with Labour Day, a public holiday celebrated annually on the fourth Monday of October.
