Angels in Aorearoa Series:

ANGEL & TOYOTA BLUE

ANGEL WITH LIZARD Large.jpg

Creating colours was a major undertaking for Renaissance painters. Colours that we take for granted had to be handmade from minerals, such as azurite and malachite, and plants, such as saffron. Deep blue paint was made by crushing the valuable gemstone lapis lazuli into a fine powder and mixing it with other ingredients. Today, almost any colour can be matched in a matter of minutes at a local paint shop.
