“Broken Nose” was Ron Hurd’s nickname, joined the International Brigade as a volunteer. he was wounded twice fighting with the 15 International Brigade. After the war he returned to Australia and traveled to New Zealand where he married Patricia Devanny. He was a communist and a leader of the Western Australian Seaman’s Union.
